Five signals. Your response time.

Reaction Time Test

What your reaction test shows

Respond to an actual signal instead of choosing an answer. See all five response times, not just one lucky click.

A result in milliseconds

See each response time and the median of the whole series.

No fixed countdown to guess

Random delays and early-press handling distinguish responses from premature presses.

Repeat under similar conditions

Keep the device and input method consistent when comparing your own sessions.

02

Three numbers to review your session

A lower time means a shorter interval to the press in this session. The spread shows how different your responses were.

Median

The middle value after sorting five response times. Two trials are faster and two slower, or equal.

Fastest response

The lowest time among five successful trials. One fast response does not replace the full series.

Spread

The slowest response minus the fastest. This describes variation within this particular series.

How reaction time is measured

The browser measures the interval from updating the signal to processing your press. The headline result is the median of five successful trials. Results are sent after the series, so network upload time is not added to each trial.

  1. 1Start by pressing the panel, or use the space bar while the panel has focus. Wait without pressing early.
  2. 2Press when the green panel and “PRESS NOW!” appear. Start each following trial separately.
  3. 3After five trials, open the median, fastest time, spread and response times in their original order.

Get a cleaner measurement

  • Do not switch tabs during the wait or signal: that trial will be cancelled.
  • Use one input method for the whole series. Reset to change methods.
  • A trial without a response after ten seconds is interrupted. Early presses are not successful measurements.
FAQ

Reaction time test questions

Visual reaction time is the interval between a signal and a response. This BrainApps test presents a signal after a random delay, so you cannot simply follow a fixed rhythm. Press the panel with a mouse, touch, or the space bar; keep the same input method throughout the session. Five successful trials make up the result, while early presses and interrupted trials are counted separately. This is a short check on your device: display refresh, input processing and browser activity affect the numbers. Compare your own repeated sessions under similar conditions.

How do I take the reaction time test?+

Press the panel, wait for the green signal and “PRESS NOW!”, then press again. Repeat until you have five successful trials. On desktop, space or Enter works when the panel has focus.

How is the final result calculated?+

The five successful times are sorted and the third becomes the median. The fastest response and the difference between the slowest and fastest are shown separately. All five times remain in the result.

What happens if I press too early?+

A press before the signal counts as an early press, not one of the five successful trials. Start another trial. An unfinished series must be reset after thirty events.

Can I test on a phone?+

Yes, by tapping the panel. Touch processing and displays differ from desktop setups, so do not mix devices and input methods when comparing your own results.

What is a good reaction time?+

There is no single threshold for every device and condition here. This test does not invent age norms or a ranking. Focus on your median and repeat the series on the same device.

Do I need an account, and what comes next?+

You can complete the series and view the result without signing up. Share the result link if you wish. Continue with BrainApps cognitive training for further activities.
