Intuition is undeniably important; completely disregarding it would deprive us of valuable quick judgments. However, a deeper understanding of the mechanisms behind our intuitive reactions enables us to use them more effectively, especially in complex representational scenarios where base rates play a crucial role.<\/p>\n<p>Research by renowned psychologist Daniel Kahneman and his colleague Amos Tversky has shown that when evaluating people or events, we often ignore base rates, relying instead on superficial representations. For instance, upon meeting someone who introduces themselves as a librarian, we might automatically assume, based on their appearance or manner of speech, that the person loves to read books and is introverted, without considering how common these traits are in the general population.
